Here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
Do I need good balance to standup paddle?
The answer is no! If you can walk, you can standup paddle. All events include a beginner lesson and we teach people how to utilize the paddle to provide balance and stability. Your paddle will become your new best friend!
What should I bring for a paddleboard event?
All gear, PFDs, dry bags, wetsuits and booties are provided for our SUP events.
Please bring the following items with you:
• Energy bar or snack (we provide a small snack, but please bring your own if you have any dietary restrictions)
• Sunscreen, hat or sun visor, sunglasses, sunglass retainer strap
• Allergy medications if needed and/or any other medications you may need
• Swimsuit and/or rash guard (to wear alone or under wetsuit)
Is it safe?
Safety is our number one priority out on the water. Our guides are also instructors and trained in first aid, CPR and water safety. We plan our events with safety in mind to take best advantage of the usual wind patterns and tides. We are prepared to make adjustments as necessary to handle changing conditions. Our focus is flatwater paddling, thus we don’t go in the ocean and we don’t take beginners out in the main channel of the Columbia River, except sometimes on calmer days upriver. There are plenty of calmer backwater sloughs, winding rivers, estuaries and bays to explore.
